Television executives blame the Internet for their loss of viewers. They do not seem to understand that when something becomes too much trouble, consumers turn away from it. That is what has happened to television. For every fifteen minutes of programming, viewers are compelled to watch ten minutes of commercials. During those ten minutes, viewers change channels. With so many channels, people can always find something they want to watch. Then, however, they encounter the same problem. Eventually they give up and walk away. No, it is not that the Internet attracts people. It is that television drives them away.
